Recollections of CLAS: Peter S. Cahn, MPhil student, 1996-1997
Associate Provost for Academic Affairs, Professor and Director, Center for Interprofessional Studies and Innovation, MGH Institute of Health Professions
The MPhil at CLAS gave me a balanced foundation for my academic career. When I continued on to my PhD in anthropology at UC Berkeley, I became grateful for exposure to the broad geographic and disciplinary traditions of Latin American studies. CLAS also enhanced my bibliography with authors not as widely cited in the U.S. As an ethnographer, I incorporated the work of CLAS mentors in my analyses of contemporary Mexican religion. Now that my role is primarily administrative, I still draw on the holistic approach to Latin American studies to understand global flows of people and culture.
