Beyond Borders
A Weekend of Contemporary Ibero-American Film
The Centre of Latin American Studies (CLAS) and the Department of Spanish and Portuguese warmly invite you to a free weekend of contemporary Ibero-American film. We will be showcasing some of the most recent Hispanic and Lusophone cinema from both sides of the Atlantic, bringing together directors, actors and academics in discussions and Q&A sessions. All screenings will have English subtitles (unless indicated otherwise). The programme is as follows (more information on each film below):
Saturday 25 April
- 11:00 El premio, dir. by Paula Markovitch (Argentina/Mexico 2011) with an introductory message from Paula Markovitch in Spanish
- 14:00 Casa grande, dir. by Fellipe Barbosa (Brazil 2014)
- 17:00 La eterna noche de las doce lunas, dir. by Priscilla Padilla (Colombia 2013) with an introductory message from Priscila Padilla; followed by a wine reception
Sunday 26 April
- 11:00 Jirafas, dir. by Kiki Álvarez (Cuba 2013) with an introductory message from Kiki Álvarez; no English subtitles
- 14:00 Tabu, dir. by Miguel Gomes (Portugal 2012)
- 17:00 Post Mortem, dir. by Pablo Larraín (Chile 2010) followed by a Q&A with lead actor and award-winning theatre director Alfredo Castro (Tony Manero, Post Mortem, No)

Students and academics are welcome. All screenings are free of charge, and we invite all guests to join us also for both the wine reception and Q&A sessions. As none of the screenings will be ticketed, please arrive in good time to ensure you get a seat.
