We are delighted to share that The Gates Cambridge Trust has announced that two of our new students have been selected as part of the 25th class of Gates Cambridge Scholars.
Our students have been awarded the prestigious postgraduate scholarship programme aimed “for the most socially engaged and academically brilliant students from around the world” to study at CLAS, starting in the new academic year.
Mario Cépeda Cáceres and Eréndira Derbez will pursue their PhD in Latin American Studies to continue their research work.
Mario: "At the University of Cambridge’s Centre of Latin American Studies, my PhD project, titled Andean Spaces of Death: Living with the Traces of the Peruvian Internal Armed Conflict in Rural Communities, will involve ethnographic research. This study explores how rural Andean communities rebuild social ties and cultural identities amid landscapes marked by clandestine burial sites and mass graves."
Eréndira: "During my PhD in Latin American Studies, I will explore the role of artistic interventions and public art within the context of Mexican civil society's response to extreme violence over the past decade. My research aims to enhance contemporary art studies by examining artistic expressions beyond traditional galleries or museums, incorporating protest expressions integral to the visual imaginary that significantly influence cultural studies in Latin America."
¡Felicitaciones a ambos y bienvenidos a CLAS!
