Applications for hosting at the Centre of Latin American Studies, University of Cambridge

The Centre of Latin American Studies (CLAS), University of Cambridge, invites applications for hosting from applicants for British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowships, to be taken up from October 2024. Applications are welcome from Latin Americanists working in any eligible field supported by the British Academy. Successful applicants will be asked to make a modest contribution to teaching on the MPhil in Latin American Studies, within their chosen area of expertise. You will be expected to play a full part in the thriving research community based at CLAS, and to live in or near Cambridge during the week in term time, unless carrying out fieldwork. You will have access to world-class research facilities and a range of opportunities for training and career development. Eligibility

Applicants must be either a UK/EEA national or have completed their doctorate at a UK university. Applicants must also be within three years of the award of the doctorate (i.e. with a viva between 1 April 2021 and 1 April 2024). Applicants who have already held a permanent academic post are not eligible to apply. How to apply

If you wish to be considered for hosting at CLAS, you should send the documents listed below by 8 August 2023 (12.00 BST) to the Director of Graduate Studies, Dr Geoffrey Maguire (gwm23@cam.ac.uk), copied to the Centre's Administrator (admin@latin-american.cam.ac.uk).

Applicants who are successful in the University’s internal competition will be invited to submit an application to the British Academy by 4 October 2023 and will receive pre-application support in the form of feedback on the research proposal and assistance with costings.

Documents required

1. A CV (maximum two pages), including the date of the PhD viva and the date you were awarded the PhD.

2. A list of publications (maximum one page). 

3. A completed application form for the internal competition, including a 750-word description of your proposed project. Please note that the form requires you to give the name of a proposed mentor, who will be a member of academic staff in Cambridge with current or past involvement in the Centre of Latin American Studies. 4. A draft budget (maximum one page) for the £6k of research expenses (£2k/year).
