Asdrúbal Baptista, Simón Bolívar Chair 2001-2002

Asdrúbal Baptista was one of the most affable and energetic Simon Bolivar professors of recent years. He brought to Cambridge not only his expertise as an economist, but a much wider interest in Venezuelan and Latin American social science and history. With experience in higher education and government, he was convinced of the need for scholars to address a wider public in clear accessible language and did this most amply through his oversight of the ‘Suma del pens venezolano’ project for the Polar Foundation. While in Cambridge he and Cecilia made many friends in the Centre of Latin American Studies and his college Corpus Christi.
